Grab a Coffee
How Did It Start
The Steamer Coffee House and Kitchen started off as an idea back in 2019. We wanted to create a space where people could come together to enjoy great coffee and locally sourced foods. As a small local team of coffee, food, countryside, heritage and automotive enthusiasts, we have tried and tasted the best eats we can get our hands on in Devon and put them all under one roof.
Sourcing food from well known Devon growers, makers and suppliers. Searching high and low for the little gems that you may have missed.
We have spoken directly to each of our suppliers and learned about their heritage and love of their products; we are proud to showcase this.
As we explored the heritage of our chosen suppliers, we also explored our own heritage. This is where our name came from.
Join us in enjoying our locally sourced artisan produce, and share your stories with us.

A Nod to The Past
The Steamer
When speaking to members of our community, family and friends, we were sent a photo of an incident that took place right here at Five Bridges in 1906. A Traction Engine (also known as a steam engine or “steamer”) had overturned, attracting a crowd of locals and problem solvers. News of the accident was shared via word of mouth, photo and even postcard.
“The Steamer” Coffee and Kitchen name was born.
The heritage of Five Bridges is much older than ‘modern history’, with Willand mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086AD) and a long history of local land being used for agriculture, there is a lot yet to be rediscovered and shared. There have even been prehistoric findings in the local area, scatterings of flint dated between Early Neolithic to Late Bronze periods.
